Looking ahead to Christmas in the Alps

Christmas is always a magical time to be in the Alps, whether you’re visiting as a family, a couple or a group of friends. With snow covered villages, traditional treats and cosy chalets, you might as well be at the North Pole.

If you’re planning to visit the Alps this Christmas, now is the perfect time to start planning, so we’ve picked three key things to start thinking about now:

Travel

Travel over the festive season is always a chaotic affair, but the sooner you can start planning, the easier it will be. Many flights and ferries will already have tickets on sale, and at this busy time of year, it’s sensible to get them snapped up sooner rather than later.

If you’re travelling with children you might want to consider getting settled in your accommodation a few days before Christmas Day, so there’s time to squeeze in some festive activities and let the excitement mount. On the other hand, if you’re travelling with friends, perhaps New Year’s Eve is the main event - in which case you might want to travel a little after the big day.

Activities

As with most western countries, activities and outings start getting booked up months in advance. If it’s essential for you to squeeze in a visit to Santa or a sleigh ride, it’s a good idea to find out when booking opens so you don’t miss out.

And that’s not advice that’s just for families with children - if you’re travelling as an adult group and want to book a special restaurant for Christmas Day or New Year’s Eve then it’s just as likely to get booked up far in advance.

Gifts

If you’re travelling over the festive season, it’s a good idea to ensure any gifts you’re taking with you are wrapped and ready in plenty of time. Early December is a good time to aim for, so that you can relax and enjoy the holiday season with your loved ones without the need for a last minute dash to the shops.
