Three unmissable Christmas markets in the French and Swiss Alps

Who doesn’t love a Christmas Market and with such a magnificent selection of markets to choose from in the French and Swiss Alps, we’ve narrowed it down to three of the best. Whether you’re spending the holidays in the Alps or just planning a festive trip in the run-up, these are three markets you don’t want to miss.

Bô Noël - Lausanne

Open from November 21st until New Year’s Eve, the Lausanne Christmas market has everything you could possibly want. Stalls offer local, homemade goods that are perfect for finishing off your Christmas shopping - but that’s just the beginning. Lausanne Christmas Market is full of foodie treats, so don’t eat beforehand, and there’s a dedicated childrens’ part of the market. Pop-up bars are the perfect place to warm up with a mulled wine or hot chocolate, while the picture-perfect set-up is completed by a live Nativity scene.

Annecy

Always a picturesque place to visit, with its cobbled streets and winding waterways, Annecy is more beautiful than ever at Christmas. Its market is made up of 80 chalets, each occupied by a vendor selling homemade goods and delicious local produce. What makes Annecy Christmas Market so special is the seasonal ice rink - guaranteed festivity as you whizz round the rink to the background of twinkling lights and towering mountains.

Les Gets

Les Gets has a Christmas Market that’s especially magical for children, with a fabulous grotto and snow garden for the little ones. Of course you won’t be short of a cheesy snack or two and you’ll find plenty of beautiful stalls to browse, but it’s after dark that Les Gets Christmas Market really stands out from the crowd. A fabulous light show - Alta Lumina - draws you into a fairytale world. If you’re looking for a market to take little ones to, this has got to be up there with the best of them.

Of course, if you want the opportunity to take your pick of the Alps’ finest Christmas markets, an investment property in the Alps could be a savvy choice. Enjoy the scenery, skiing and Savoyard food as often as you fancy, while making an income when your holiday home isn’t in use.
