Ski resorts that would make the perfect weekend getaway

One of the problems with a weekend getaway to a ski resort is that by merit of their need for mountainous terrain, ski resorts don’t tend to be very close to major airports. Luckily, it’s easy to access the popular resorts by hiring a car, on public transport or by booking a private transfer – perfect for sneaking in a quick weekend away.

Verbier and Nendaz are just 90 minutes from the Swiss airport of Geneva, which is easy to fly to from all over the UK. Bag an early morning flight on a Friday and you could be on the slopes by lunchtime if you get a move on.

Opt for Verbier for a buzzing apres ski scene, loads of great bars and restaurants to choose from and plenty for all the family to do.

Chamberey is the most convenient airport for Meribel in France, at just over an hour’s driving time. Not only is Meribel a lovely ski resort with some gorgeous slopes, but it’s also in the heart of some of France’s best skiing territory. Pop over to Courchevel, La Tania or Val Thorens for a bit of variety and to mix things up a little.

A weekend skiing getaway is the perfect way to whisk the kids away for a treat, or surprise your other half with a romantic getaway. Take Friday and Monday off to extend your break and really make the most of your time on the slopes.

Accessibility for short trips is a must for some people, who want to be able to ski as much as possible during the winter season and when snow conditions are at their best. Equally if you have chosen to rent out your property, but you find it is available at short notice, then this provides the perfect opportunity for you to pop over for a few days and to spend time there yourself.
