Christmas in the Alps

Like me, are you dreaming of a white Christmas? Surrounded by snow with a hot coal fire burning, cocoa at the ready and a tray of tartiflette? Yes, Christmas in the French Alps is magical, and although you may have just missed the boat for buying in 2014, you can prepare well in advance for 2015.

With record low mortgage rates continuing to draw buyers to France and the Alps in particular, combined with the benefits of a weaker Euro, financially there has never been a more compelling reason for purchasing a chalet of apartment in one of the Rhone Alps, many wonderful resorts

A resort with ever increasing appeal is Les Gets, being just 70 minutes from Geneva Airport. Offering good value in terms of property prices, compared to some other more expensive resorts, Les Gets has seen its popularity grow significantly season on season.

The village is really beautiful, and holds a great weekly market on Thursdays, ideal for buying fruit and vegetables. The Alpine village feel is reflected in the “chocolate box” buildings, but this is combined with modern skiing amenities and a quaint yet vibrant nightlife. New Year is much more lively in Les Gets, so if you want a picture perfect, quiet Christmas, the village is an ideal spot for buying property, and it’s particularly good for the younger members of the family. This year they are building an ‘enchanted forest’ with a Santa’s Grotto and Elves workshop.

Another resort seeing a strong growth is Morzine, which recently announced investment in two new ski lifts that link to Avoriaz. I have fond memories of Avoriaz, purely for its beginner slopes and the famous Chapelle snow park & Stash. The snow park is a major pull for families with children, offering up beginner courses over Christmas, getting them prepared for the main slog of the ski season.
