Avoriaz, Haute-Savoie, Rhone Alps
Avoriaz at an altitude of 1800m and snow sure, sits perched on a plateau, high above the long established large and lively year round vibrant old style Savoyard town and family resort of Morzine. Its bold, purpose built modern and futuristic, yet famous wood clad architecture, designed to blend in with the surrounding cliffs, has a pedestrian, traffic free centre and horse drawn sledges from the large car parks. With a plethora of different leaseback and non leaseback apartments to choose from, it gives second home owners the chance of superb snow and the ability to ski in and out from your doorstep.
Open from the end of November to the end of April, Avoriaz at the heart of the Portes du Soleil's 650km domain (12 resorts, 2 countries and 194 lifts) and links to Champery in one direction and Chatel in the other, is the gateway to a marvellous winter playground. Ranging from 950 – 2300m, the ample wooded slopes on the lower piste, few queues locally and the reliable weather, make this some of the finest skiing in Europe and extremely popular with the British.
As one of the pioneers of snowboarding in France and the first to build a terrain park, Avoriaz has 4 permanent parks (Arare, La Chapelle, Trashers and The Stash) and a super-pipe. Arare a pro park often used for high profile pro events includes its own drag lift, four big kickers with red and black take offs, big rails, a C-box, wall ride and corner jump.
