The resort of Alpe d'Huez itself has been widely recognised as one of the best destinations in the Alps, given the "European Best Ski Resort Award" not only in 2017 but also 2019 and 2020.

Offering you 300 days a year of sunshine and nicknamed "The Island of Sun", in winter Alpe d'Huez offers one of the longest ski seasons in the Alps opening on 1st December each year and closing at the end April (sometimes May depending on snow). here there is skiing for all levels.

The 1,2 mile long "Marcels Farm" piste an absolute firm favourite with young children that includes a small half pipe, gates, tunnel, cow slalom course and boardercross to enjoy as you descend. They just want to go again and again!

For beginners, Alpe d'Huez is also one of the premier ski areas in the Alps. The area of "Les Jeux" with its wide array of green runs which return you to the resort is the perfect training area while you practise and improve.

While for those at the other end of the scale, Alpe d'Huez is home to the longest Black in the Alps. "La Sarenne" descends from Pic Blanc at 3300m in a 16km vertical decent of 2000m. For those that want more of a challenge there is the formidable "Tunnel" to get stuck into.

In the summer the resort is home to the world famous hairpin bend climb of the Tour de France and synonymous with cycling in the region with multiple professional and ameteur events. The resort also boasts a 9 hole golf course open in the summer.

In 2024, there is a planned new cable car linking Alpe d'Huez with Bourg d'Oisans the main town in the valley as part of the environmental strategy to reduce pollution of those driving up/down the mountain. This in turn will give owners the opportunity to explore Bourg d'Oisans, while in the summer an easy route on bikes for those that want to cycle in the valley. Once this new cable car is completed there is still the plan to link Alpe d'Huez to Les Deux Alpes which will come next.
