Exploring Alpine Paradise - Top Summer Activities in the Alps

The Alps make for a spectacular summer holiday destination, especially if you’re the kind of person who likes to stay active on holiday. Soaring peaks, blue skies and easy-going weather are the perfect backdrop to all sorts of outdoorsy holiday activities.

Although the Alps are a popular year-round destination, they also cover a vast area, meaning that there’s plenty of outdoors to go around. Stay away from the very most popular areas, and you could well have a mountainside all to yourself.

The region is littered with fantastic, well marked tracks and trails as well as mountain refuges and other accommodation designed for hikers to rest their weary feet. Seasoned hikers can travel under their own steam, whilst newbie hikers wanting to climb out of their comfort zone will find plenty of alpine guides and organised trips to keep them safe.

Whether you’re looking for a casual wander through some Alpine meadows or a multi-day scramble up a serious peak, hiking in the Alps offers something for everyone.

But travellers after an experience that really gets the blood pumping will be pleased to hear that hiking is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Alpine adventures.

Resorts like Les Gets and Morzine boast some of Europe’s best single track descents for mountain biking enthusiasts, who can also take advantage of the Portes du Soleil ski area and use a single lift pass to access a vast range of tracks. These are the most famous but far from the only mountain biking areas, and anyone on two wheels is bound to have a blast on an Alpine summer holiday.

Take things up another notch, and you’ll find all sorts of adrenaline-fuelled adventure sports on offer. Whether you choose to take to the skies and paraglide or throw yourself on the mercies of the river with a white-water rafting trip, you’ll be spoilt for choice with outdoorsy activities in the Alps this summer.
