Top destinations for adventure sports in the Alps

For the true adrenaline junkie, there’s nowhere better to holiday than the Alps. The mountainous scenery means the landscape is packed with rugged crags, huge lakes, rushing rapids and deep caves - and that means it’s a perfect destination for adventure sports.

Whatever gets your blood rushing, you’re sure to find something that sates your appetite for adventure in the Alps. We’ve chosen some of the top destinations for adventure sports in the Alps:

Courchevel

If climbing is your cup of tea, Courchevel is the place to be. There are a range of safe, specially equipped climbing sites alongside via ferrata for all levels, from beginner to advanced. The Avals Valley and Praméruel offer some of the best climbing in the area - find out more here.

Morzine

The Dranse river which runs by Morzine offers some spectacular opportunities for canyoning during the summer months. Descending into the canyon requires you to slide, abseil and swim into the icy cold mountain water - but completing a feat like this is enormously satisfying. Suitable for children aged 12+, it’s a great activity for teens and parents to do together.

Les Gets

Swap hurtling down snowy slopes for hurtling down non-snowy slopes during the summer months in Les Gets. Boasting the biggest bikepark in Europe, if you enjoy mountain biking then Les Gets is the place to be. The park has over 90km of tracks and three lifts, giving you more time to spend on the descent than dragging your bike up hills!

Megeve

The resort of Megeve is close by Mont Blanc, Europe’s highest mountain. If conquering giants is your thing, you need to take on this challenge. Depending on your fitness level, you can hike around the mountain or attempt an ascent with a guide. As well as ultimate bragging rights, you’ll get gorgeous views over the surrounding Alps on a clear day.
