Fun, luxury and astounding views: why St Gervais is a gorgeous place to ski

If you’re looking for chalets for sale in France and are not sure which resort to choose, St Gervais may well have what you need. Not only does it offer skiing and snowboarding for every level, it’s got some of the most lively apres ski activities going and, perhaps most attractively of all, a view of Mont Blanc that will stop you in your tracks.

The slopes

One of the main reasons St Gervais is so popular is the sheer variety of skiing on offer. It’s got some great nursery slopes for beginners, plus a highly recommended ski school in Le Bettex. For the intermediate skier, the choice is simply endless, with a colossal 270 miles of pistes spread across several slopes in the area.

Le Bettex is the centre of most of the action and can be reached by gondola from the resort; Rochebrune and Jaillet are also great for a leisurely ski downhill while surrounded on all sides by spectacular scenery. For those who want to step it up a gear, there are 17 black slopes totalling about 25 miles.

Eating and drinking

After your activities on the slopes, you’ll have plenty of choice for where to relax as the sun sets. The restaurants are generally top-notch, with everything from cosy, cheerfully French bistros to all-out fine dining experiences.

Amongst the most popular places to munch is La Causettes in Le Bettex. The flavoursome food is made ten times better if you can get a spot on the outdoor terrace to eat it – yes, sorry to sound like a broken record, but the views in St Gervais are pretty staggering, so we recommend taking every chance you get to have a look at them.

If you want traditional French food, La Coterie is famous in the area for its juicy grilled meat, while La Fleche d’Or is another top option, but these are just the tip of the iceberg. With more than 50 eateries in the area, there’s plenty for the ravenous skier to explore.

If you’re more the kind of person who looks for the party as soon as they slip off their skis, you won’t be disappointed either. Both homely, hearty pubs (Les Caves du Presteau, Oboose, the Millennium Pub) and sophisticated, chic lounges and clubs (Pur Bar, Le Repaire des Ours, La Nuit de Temps) can be found nearby.

Fun for the family

St Gervais does a terrific job of striking a balance between lively and relaxing - it's a hotspot for twenty and thirty somethings looking for nightlife and also a relaxing, chilled-out getaway for families. As the slopes are dotted heavily with gondolas and chairs, sticking together as you traverse the various courses is never a problem, while two excellent kid-focused ski-schools (Le Garderie des Neiges and Club Piou Piou Ski Kindergarten) operate in the area.

For those searching for property for sale in the Alps, St Gervais is a real winner. It’s got just about everything you could want from a location for either a holiday home or an investment property.
