Champery

This picture postcard stunning village at the foot of the Dents du Midi, full of Swiss charm at an altitude of 1050m with its main street featuring beautifully kept wooden chalets and preserved architecture, is situated just 90 minutes from Geneva. The village, small enough to keep everything within walking distance offers second home owners an easy access to the vast world’s largest internationally famous, 650km Portes du Soleil ski area (2 countries, 12 resorts, 194 lifts, 90 on piste restaurants), via the two lifts operating out of Champery to Planachaux, where the Portes du Soleil starts. With quick links to Avoriaz and the Lindarets Valley separating Avoriaz and Chatel, make Champery a top ski and mountain bike destination.

Owing to its unique position on the north-western slope of the Alps, the Portes du Soleil gets regular snowfall from the north and west. This plentiful supply of fresh powder makes the Portes du Soleil a freerider's paradise. Champery has two ski and snowboard schools both of which are certified snow sports schools and offer group and private lessons with highly qualified teachers. Champery's world class fun park is widely considered Switzerland's best snowpark and is frequently visited by professional riders and film crews. A Micropark for children and beginners is a new addition in 2010.

With the majestic, jagged beauty of the spectacular seven peaks of the Les Dents du Midi mountains as a backdrop to rival the Matterhorn in natural beauty, the village's bars and restaurants offer a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Champery is not just interesting for skiers, both in the summer and in winter, owners can enjoy the many other activities the resort has to offer. The centrally located brand new state of the art, Palladium (National Ice Sports Centre) offers Ice Skating, Curling, Indoor basketball, volleyball, Beach volleyball, Indoor and Outdoor swimming pool, Tennis, Fitness, Wellness and Physiotherapy.

In summer, the extensive network of slopes, become 850 miles of unrestricted, sign-posted footpaths for hiking and colour coded tracks to match ski slope degree of difficulty for mountain biking. Over the years the Portes du Soleil has become renowned as the prime place for mountain bikers from the world over, with 25 lifts available to carry bikes throughout the summer. The Swiss resorts of Champery, Val d'Illiez, and Morgins have joined forces to form Bike Park, Switzerland's biggest mountain bike park and regular host of the Swiss Mountain Bike Championships.

Being a dual season resort, if you are looking to rent your chalet or apartment to cover some of the costs, the resort offers great potential throughout the winter and summer periods thanks to its access to the Portes du Soleil, particularly the Christmas/New Year week, the 4 weeks of February and July/August when rental returns are at a premium.

With just a 90 minute drive to Geneva airport, the short transfer times from the airport make owning a property in Champery an ideal location. For those wishing to drive, the resort is easy to reach by taking exit 18 Saint Triphon on the A9, then simply follow signs Portes du Soleil and Champery. By train, it’s possible to travel from anywhere in Europe to Champery.
