This sunny, dual season, East/South facing, snow sure village, on the beautiful western side of the Val d'Hérémence in the Lower Valais, is split into 3 parallel terraces by stunning alpine pine and larch forests, at elevations of 1800m, 1850m and 1900m. With snow from November till April and only 15 km from Sion, each terrace sits directly on the slopes and offers quick and easy access to one of largest and highest ski areas in Europe and the largest in Switzerland, the 4 Valleys. The network of ski trails, to an altitude of 3300 m caters for all levels. From beginners to experts, the circuit covers some 412km of slopes, serviced by 92 lifts, that link with the world famous resort of Verbier, which can be reached from the resort in just over an hour.
With plenty of great, sunny, open, quiet slopes, no queues at the lifts and many varied off piste opportunities in the local Thyon ski area, Les Collons enjoys a beautiful panorama of the Bernese, Valais and Vaud Alps, dominated by the 4000m peaks of the world-famous Matterhorn and the majestic Dent Blanche. The resort offers all the usual amenities, including a couple of hotels, sports shops (ski equipment, rental and ski school) to restaurants, bars and a couple of supermarkets. A swimming pool and other facilities can be found just 10 minutes away in Thyon on the free ski bus, as well as kids club and crèche. Several hotels, including a spa, are also planned for the near future in the village, which will bring many more amenities, as well as visitors generating further rental possibilities and capital appreciation for those owning a property in Les Collons.
As well as skiing, the resort also offers dog sledding, snow mobiling, ice skating, curling, cross country skiing and kilometres of alpine winter walks. In summer owners can take advantage of the fresh alpine air, the peace and quiet, the vast 300km of hiking trails, 70km of mountain bike trails (three downhill runs), horse riding, paragliding, fishing, climbing, swimming pool, tennis and lots more in the area.
The whole of the local Tele Thyon ski domain is currently receiving huge investment from Tele Verbier who now owns a one third share in the local company (Etherolla chair lift opened last winter giving easier access to Verbier). With major plans announced to upgrade a series of lifts also around Nendaz and Veysonnaz, coupled to improvements of the mountain restaurants in this part of the domain, it makes Les Collons a superb resort for those looking to see good capital appreciation on their Swiss property.
Being a dual resort, if you are looking to rent your chalet or apartment to cover some of the costs, the resort offers great potential throughout the winter and summer periods thanks to its access to the 4 Valleys, particularly the Christmas/New Year week, the 4 weeks of February and through July/August when rental returns are at a premium.
Les Collons is easy to get to. It can be reached by plane via Geneva from all the main UK and regional airports, while during the winter, Sion can be reached direct from the London airports by a number of specialist charter flights, giving passengers a 20 minute drive up into the resort. For those wanting to take the train, a service operates from Geneva to Sion where the local buses / taxis outside, will take you to the resort. Approximate transfer time 2 hours from Geneva. By road Les Collons is 1 hour 40 minutes from Geneva.
