Meribel: A year-round resort

Meribel is one of the best high-end luxury ski resort experiences that the Alps have to offer - and there are plenty in that neck of the woods. A famous stomping ground of 60s film star Brigitte Bardot, celebrities from Pippa Middleton to Made in Chelsea’s Binky Felstead have been spotted there in recent months, making it a hot pick for trendsetting holidaymakers.

And it’s no surprise that Meribel has such appeal; it’s situated in the heart of the Three Valleys area and the resort is made up of several picturesque villages. Towering, snow-capped mountains make for stunning views, while serious skiers are also drawn by the 600km of ski runs accessible from Meribel.

There are fewer hotels here than in neighbouring resorts, meaning most holidaymakers choose to stay in privately owned or rented chalets. It makes for a peaceful, family-friendly feel to the area that so many have fallen for over the years.

A relaxed and low-key feel during the ski season is compounded by world class facilities, from ski schools to restaurants and everything in between.

But however beloved Meribel may be during the winter months, that’s only half the story. This snowy mountain hideaway is transformed into a balmy and beautiful vista of Alpine meadows and hiking trails during the summer months.

While the luxurious local amenities including spas, restaurants and more remain on the doorstep, a world of outdoor pursuits is opened up to you. Thrill seekers will find pursuits like kayaking and canyoning available, while fitness fanatics will enjoy cycling the steep roads of the Three Valleys area.

For those after a more sedate holiday, the views alone make getting out into nature a must. With hiking trails that range from a gentle amble to a full-on scramble, there’s something suitable for every group.

Owning your own chalet is one of the best ways to take advantage of the all-year-round appeal of Meribel. You’ll have somewhere to stay whenever you fancy making the trip, whether it’s high season or otherwise - and when your chalet or apartment isn’t in use, you can make a tidy profit out of it.
