Decorating for Christmas in the Alps

One of the very best things about owning a property in the Alps is being able to spend the festive season there. With snow very likely in most parts of the Swiss and French Alps, spending the holiday season there is like being in a winter wonderland.

Of course, your chalet or apartment won’t feel very festive if you don’t decorate it for Christmas. Luckily there’s no need to drag suitcases full of baubles out to your holiday chalet, as the Alps offer some of the best shopping and most beautiful handicrafts in the world.

For a truly traditional style of decoration, why not invest in one of the intricate nativity scenes popular in the Alpine region? You’ll find many shops, restaurants and homes have their own, often hand-carved, nativity scenes on display in pride of place.

You won’t have any difficulty finding one to display in your home - and it’s a lovely way to bring local traditions into your home.

Certain resorts in the Alps offer spectacular shopping options - places like Courcheval are just bursting with high end stores and cosy boutiques, many of which will sell Christmas decorations. Whether it’s beautiful glass baubles that you’re after or traditional alpine ornaments, you’ll have plenty to choose from.

Are you travelling to the Alps for Christmas with children? If you’re letting your chalet out when it’s not in use by your family, you could always ask your cleaners or property management agents to sneak in ahead of time and prepare some festive touches.

It will help to keep the magic alive for little ones - and decorating the tree could be a great activity for days when the weather is too fierce for leaving the chalet to be tempting.

There’s nothing quite like an Alpine Christmas, so if you’re thinking of buying a holiday chalet where your family can make memories, get in touch with us today.
