Les Gets - a real Alpine treat

The beautiful village of Les Gets is located between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc, right in the heart of the Portes du Soleil ski region. It is a ski resort that keeps local tradition alive and close to its heart, retaining its essence as a mountain village even through its evolution into a popular tourist destination.

Its ski runs boast amazing views of the Mont Blanc region and cater for skiers of all abilities, from novices right through to the most advanced. You can ski right out of the village into the wonderful peace of fir forests and traditional alpine mountain pastures. It is a ski experience that you are not likely to forget in a hurry.

The village is also an active tourist destination in the summer time, with a range of outdoor activities to be enjoyed in addition to the outstanding alpine views. In summer here you can hit the hiking trails with routes marked out across the area, play golf at the nearby course, or for those more adventurous among you there are aerials sports like paragliding available.

There are also a range of museums and galleries nearby for those looking to absorb the local culture around traditional alpine items like chimes, clocks and musical boxes among others.

Where to eat

Just about the most popular restaurant in the Les Gets area is a fantastic place called Le Flambeau, a very pleasant establishment that serves traditional French cuisine and wines as well as more standard tourist fayre, along with a great kids menu. Whether you are dining in the evening or just looking for a nice lunch you can't go wrong at La Flambeau.

If you are after something a little more romantic, then your ideal destination for the evening is a place called Ferme de Montagne. The dining area is beautifully lit and has a wonderfully cosy log fire roaring away all of the time. Price wise it is right at the top end but for those looking for a real gourmet food experience it is a place not to be missed.

Night life

Apres ski the ideal place to head for a drink and an evening's entertainment is Indigo Bar. Not only does it have a great range of beers, wines, spirits and cocktails to help keep the conversation flowing, it also has a range of TV screens showing all of the latest sport, so you need not miss a thing. If you are feeling hungry too then there is a great range of food on offer to complement your post-ski tipple.

Les Gets is a real gem, so if you are making a shortlist of possible destinations with property for sale in the alps, make sure that it is on it.
