Get off-piste on your next ski holiday

There’s nothing quite like a holiday spent flying down mountainsides covered in crisp fresh snow, but it’s only natural to fancy a day off from the slopes once in a while. Luckily, many of the Alps’ best ski resorts also offer loads of fun activities apart from skiing – read on to find out more.

Indulge in apres-ski

Meribel is a firm favourite amongst Brits and boasts some of the best nightlife in the Alps. O’Sullivans Irish Bar stays open later than most places and is the party-venue of choice for many skiers, while you can also enjoy some fine dining at Le Plantin if that’s more your cup of tea. Recommended by the Michelin Guide, it serves classic French cuisine in opulent surroundings - the perfect place for a lazy lunch on a rest day.

Elsewhere, in Morzine you’ll find a real buzz at Bar Robinson, the ideal place for a drink and a catch-up. It sells famous local tipple Mutzig, a strong traditional beer, which is well worth tasting.

Take a hike

If you fancy some less adrenalin-fuelled exercise on your alpine holiday, why not see some of the mountainous scenery of the Alps at a slightly slower pace?

Verbier offers breathtaking views from a number of different trails, available to walk in the winter for anyone with a sense of adventure and an appreciation of lovely vistas.

It’s always advisable to walk with a guide, who will take all of the stress out of hiking by planning a safe route of the length that you’d like.

Get some real rest and relaxation

Aching muscles and tired legs will benefit from a day in the spa – to make sure you’re fighting fit for the rest of your holiday! Hotel La Marmotte in Les Gets has an indulgent spa that’s perfect for taking a day out from skiing.

Indulge in a massage, get a facial treatment or just lie back and enjoy steam rooms, saunas and more.
