Anzere
This attractive, family friendly, dual season purpose built resort is perfectly set on a sunny south facing shelf with spectacular views over the Rhone Valley and surrounding mountains. Made up of chalet style buildings, the village is little known to the UK market, yet is beautifully situated at the heart of the Swiss Alps. With its own traffic free, central pedestrian square home to a wide selection of shops, restaurants, bars, nightclubs (x3), children’s area and ice rink, during the winter once a week, hot wine is prepared in a large kettle to provide a welcome drink for all visitors. Only 15 km from Sion, the resort is known for its long hours of sunshine and very little rainfall.
At 1500m, the resort offers 40km of skiing terrain to 2420m, serviced by 11 different ski lifts. The planned link to Crans Montana (10 minutes by car) when it happens at Les Rousses will add a further 160km of skiable terrain, making the resort a major investment opportunity and a highly sought after second home location thanks to its lower prices than its neighbour. The resort now boasts a winter sports “fun space”, with a permanent boardercross, a T-bar tow for beginners and young children, while the sledge/tube trail running through the forest is a must.
Access to the world famous 410km, 4 Valleys ski domain comprising the resorts of Verbier, Les Collons, Haute Nendaz, Veysonnaz and La Tzoumaz is just a short 40 minute drive for those that fancy a change of scenery. Alternatively the 250 boutiques spread throughout the resort of Crans Montana offers those that prefer to shop instead of ski, a paradise to lose yourself in. With all the biggest names in French and Italian fashion designers, Swiss Watches, Jewellers and 5 art galleries hosting internationally renowned artists work, there’s something to tempt everyone.
In the summer 166 km of signposted footpaths cover the region of Anzere, winding through the forests and pastures, running alongside the traditional Swiss bisse (artificial small water canals), two of which head toward the Zeuzier dam.The resort also has 5 tracks for mountain biking (80km) while a heated open air public swimming pool is at the heart of the village. Open from June to September this is an ideal place to relax in the sun, being a fun safe place for children. Other summer activities include two outstanding signature courses by Jack Nicklaus and Severiano Ballesteros in Crans- Montana, horse riding, paragliding, fishing and rock climbing.
For those looking at investing in a chalet outside of a resort, just a short three minute drive below Anzere lies the well kept secret of Mayens d’Arbaz. Simply one of the most beautiful mountain villages in Valais and offering totally uninterrupted views of the Rhone Valley, this small and peaceful area enjoying a Mediterranean climate and South facing aspect, is renowned locally for its unspoilt stunning walks, small alpine lakes and flora and fauna.
Anzere and Mayens d’Arbaz can easily be reached by plane via Geneva taking 2 hours by car from the airport. During the winter, Sion can be reached direct from the London airports by a number of specialist charter flights or by private plane, giving passengers an easy 20 minute drive up into the resort. A train service links Geneva to Sion and Sierre where a bus service takes you to the resort. Approximate transfer time from Geneva 2 1/2 hours. The high speed train TGV des Neiges from Paris runs direct to Sierre every Saturday in the winter season.
