The Portes du Soleil

The Portes du Soleil proudly holds the title of worlds largest ski area that straddles both the French and Swiss borders covering some 650km (404 miles) of pistes serviced by a staggering 202 lifts.

 

The 5 main French ski resorts of the Portes du Soleil comprise:

· Morzine

· Les Gets

· Avoriaz

· Montriond

· Chatel

 

Smaller villages of the Morzine Valley include:

· St Jean D’Aulps                       10 mins from Morzine by car/bus: Free buses all day long until 7 in the evening: Has its own                                                  small ski resort at La Grande Terche (20km of piste): Does not connect into PDS

· La Cote D’Arbroz                     10 mins from Morzine and 5 mins from St Jean D’Aulps: Possible to access the PDS from the                                                  Col D’Encrenaz which is in Cote D’Arbroz and this goes over to Les Gets: (no free bus)

· Le Biot                                     20 mins from Morzine and nearest entry into PDS is at Montriond and the entry is known as                                                  Ardent.

· Seytroux                                  10 mins from Morzine: (no free bus)

· Essert Romand                        5 mins from Morzine: (no free bus)

· La Vernaz                                20 mins from Morzine although could access a further ski area at Bellevaux. 10 mins from St                                                  Jean D’Aulps and La Grande Terche

While the smaller villages of the Abondance Valley include:

· La Chapelle D’Abondance       10 mins from Chatel and entry into PDS: Buses will run along this route

· Abondance                               20 mins from Chatel: buses will run along this route

· Chevenoz                                 20 mins from Chatel in the PDS and 15 mins from Bernex and Thollon les Memises ski resorts                                                  located above Evian les Bains

Evian and around the Lake

The region of the Portes du Soleil is split into the Morzine Valley and the Abondance Valley. Within these valleys a number of smaller villages can be found all within easy reach of the main 5 ski resorts accessed by the regular and widely used free ski bus.

Evian les Bains, is the world famous attractive French town situated on the edge of Lake Geneva, renowned for its restaurants, 5 star hotels, Casino and Spa.

This superb resort only 1 1/2 hours from Geneva airport, offers a wide array of water sports in the summer and two small ski resorts of Bernex and Thollon les Memises each providing 50km of skiing in the winter only 15 minutes away.

For the more discerning skier, the Portes du Soleil can easily be reached 50 minutes in the car.
