LA TZOUMAZ (Mayens de Riddes)

La Tzoumaz or Mayens de Riddes is a relatively new resort in the 4 Valleys, nestling in a pretty green, sunny valley on the South side of the Rhone at an altitude of 1500m.

Positioned half way between Martigny and Sion, just 40 minutes from Lake Geneva or the airports of Sion (25 minutes) and the very pleasant journey to Geneva airport (90 minutes), the magnificent snow capped mountain views from the village are simply breathtaking.

 

Ideally suited to winter sports with direct access to the magnificent Verbier 5 star rated network, one of Europe’s largest ski regions comprising 400km of pistes that encompass the resorts of Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Les Collons, offer slopes for all levels where you can ski to the end of April.

Beginners as well as experienced skiers can have fun in La Tzoumaz. One telecabine ride from La Tzoumaz to 2300m sees you able to ski to the centre of the very fashionable resort of Verbier which have many superb restaurants for a spot of lunch.

In addition, a baby lift allows absolute beginners to gain confidence in perfect safety.

Summertime offers you the chance to choose whether to stroll through the Forests of Pine and Larch, the wide open alpine hills and meadows or explore the neighbouring summits of Mont Gele and Mont Fort along 150km of clearly signposted footpaths. 

Walks alongside the historical watercourses offer pleasant, peaceful strolls along easy, gently-sloping paths often through forested areas that everyone can enjoy. The Saxon Irrigation Channel is the longest watercourse in Valais (32km) with a 5km stretch having been restored to working order and is accessible from La Tzoumaz.

The “Senses Trail” at an altitude of 1700m, provides a 2.7km long trail with 12 clearly marked stops along the way, appealling to every nature lover exploring local fauna and birdlife.

 

The village of La Tzoumaz offers a wide range of food shops, restaurants, cafe’s, bars, nightclub and sports shops where you can hire ski’s, snowboards, mountain bikes and much more.

Geneva airport is only 1 1/2 hours away by car and Sion airport with winter flights is just 25 minutes, making the resort of La Tzoumaz very easy to get to.

With property prices as they are in Verbier and the easy access to Verbier, this little resort is fast gaining momentum and is one to invest in as it grows.

Tzoumaz ski runs. A permanent boarder cross on the Taillay run, provides chilling sensations in a breathtaking setting.

The village offers skiers and snowboarders of all levels of proficiency, a comprehensive Swiss Ski School to improve their technique. Or if you fancy some Heli skiing, flights leave from the Croix-de-Coeur for the Petit Combin or the Rosablanche.

As well as walking there is mountain biking for everyone with tracks for beginners and more experienced bikers. Mountain biking in La Tzoumaz is great fun and caters for the whole family. The lifts, open during the summer allow easy access to the local summits.

For Trout fishing you can visit the River Fare, at Lac des Vaux or in the Rhône. Fishing permits are compulsory and obtained from the La Tzoumaz Tourism Office. Children up to the age of 14 and accompanied by a parent may fish free of charge.

If you are a keen rock climber, several routes have been prepared for climbers on the magnificent “Pierre-a-Voi” mountain or you may want to play a game of tennis with the tennis courts host to a variety of tournaments throughout the summer.

 

The Tzoumaz Kids Club suitable for children from 2 to 6, located near the Tourism Office offers a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities to keep them entertained.
